People who need to communicate orally, or in writing, with someone who speaks a different language will often hire a translator or interpreter. Translation consists of the process of transferring ideas expressed in writing from one language to another. Interpreting, on the other hand, deals with the transferring of ideas expressed orally from one language to another. Publishing companies will often hire translators to help convert books or stories in other languages because it can give them a larger audience for their products. Diplomats and foreign dignitaries will often employ an interpreter in order to communicate effectively with people who speak different languages.
