Record labels are companies that record and promote musical artists. Record labels also produce records, cassettes and CDs containing an artist's music. Record labels often pay for the production of the albums of the artists signed to them. Record companies promote through advertising, radio promotion, television promotion and on-line promotion the artists signed to them. Some record labels are considered major record labels. Major record labels often sign all kinds of artists and can spend a great deal of money on promoting their artists. Independent record labels have less money to promote their artists and often specialize in promoting and recording artists belonging to certain genres. Some record labels specialize in selling and promoting a certain genre of music, such as hip hop record labels, punk rock record labels, country record labels, and electronica record labels.
