Since its invention in 1872, the injection molding process and the plastics industry has become a multi-billion dollar industry. Approximately 32% of all plastics by weight are processed by injection molding. Injection molding has made possible the cheap and durable construction of many consumer and industrial items. Injection molding is the process of forcing melted plastic into a pre-made mold. Once the plastic has cooled, the item or part is ejected or removed from the mold. This can be especially useful when parts are too complex or cost too machine to make with machinery. With injection molding, a number of plastic parts can be made at the same time, using the same mold.
