The practice of felling or cutting down trees is called logging. Logging also involves removing the trees from the forest where they were cut. Logging can be part of on-going forest management or for the purpose of acquiring the wood for various uses. Most conventional logging is either for pulpwood production for the manufacture of paper products, or for lumber production. A significant amount of logging is also done for firewood production, and, today, a very large and growing amount of logging is being done for chipwood production. The practice of logging requires specialized logging equipment, tools and supplies designed exclusively for the logging industry. Logging companies can often find wholesale suppliers of logging equipment and supplies.
