When restaurants, bars and liquor retailers need to buy liquor they get it from liquor wholesalers and liquor distributors. In most states, only those with liquor licenses can buy alcoholic products from liquor wholesalers. Different brands of liquor are distributed by different liquor wholesalers. Two liquor wholesalers cannot distribute the same brand of liquor within certain geographic boundaries. In some states, liquor distribution is handled by the state. Some liquor wholesalers specialize in carrying well-known national brands. Other liquor wholesalers specialize in carrying specialty liquors, cordials and spirits. Some liquor distributors also wholesale beer and wine. Liquor distributors wholesale scotch, bourbon, tequila, mescal, whiskey, brandy, grappa, vodka, cognac, schnapps, liqueurs, and other spirits.
