Laces are a popular and lovely form of ornamentation created by the looping, interlacing, braiding, or twisting of threads. One type of lace is bobbin lace. Bobbin lace is created from a pattern called a "pricking" and these are made with a tool called a "pricker,” usually a sharp pointed object that is used to make holes in the pattern which you use to insert the pin after the crossing of the threads. All threads are attached to objects called "bobbins" and they come in a large array of shapes and sizes. The bobbins, turned from wood, bone or plastic, hold threads which are woven together and held in place with pins stuck in the pattern on the pillow. Other types of laces include needle laces, knotted laces, and crocheted laces.
