How to Choose Human Services Organizations
Human services organizations are nonprofit associations that offer assistance to needy persons. Human services organizations often hire social workers that are trained as counselors. This training allows social workers to not only help a needy family get the food stamps and other government assistance programs that they need, but also mental health and counseling services. When you contact the human services organizations, ask them how many years they have been in business. Associations with several years of experience often have the experience that they need to offer a variety of social services, child welfare, family therapy, and individual therapy services. Be sure to ask the associations if they have experience helping people with the services that you need. If you need mental health services, then be sure that the organization you choose has a counselor that is trained to provide therapy for the problems or disabilities that you have. Although these organizations are usually nonprofit, that does not mean that they are always free. While some people qualify for free services, others might have to pay on a sliding scale. Ask the human services organizations where they are located. You will probably want to choose one that is located near your area so that it will be easy for you to visit them when you have appointments. Get the organizations contact information so that you can contact them when you need to. If you work with a certain counselor or social worker, then you should ask if they have a number where you can call them directly.
