A food broker is an independent agent who acts on behalf of a food manufacturer in selling and marketing the manufacturer's products. Food brokers differ from salespeople, who are direct employees of a manufacturer. Food brokers are paid by commission as a variable cost tied directly to the volume of the product being sold. Food brokers can enjoy close relationships with the clients with whom they do business, understanding their needs and goals and building their programs around them. As they are not direct employees of the manufacturers whose products they sell, they can act as liaisons between buyers and manufacturers.
