Construction consultants serve a variety of roles during the construction process. They can function as a general contractor, overseeing all of the work being done from start to finish, or come in at the end of a project to inspect and ensure that the project was completed to specifications. Construction consultants can be hired by the client, as well as by the contractors and architects, depending upon what role the consultant is needed for. Consultants can also function as construction managers, overseeing all or just part of a project. Although they usually have no direct role in the actual construction of a project, they typically schedule and coordinate design and construction process, including choosing individual subcontractors.
