When buses need to be repaired, serviced or fixed they are taken to bus repair shops, bus service shops and bus maintenance shops. Some bus repair services and bus repair shops are owned and operated by school districts and only repair and service the school buses owned by the district. Other bus service shops are owned by transit authorities and service only the mass transit system buses owned by the authority. Other bus repair shops are independent and repair buses and service buses of all kinds. When owners of tour buses or charities that own buses need their buses fixed, they take them to an independent bus repair shop. Some school districts and transit authorities take their buses to independent bus repair shops if they do not have an in-house bus maintenance facility.
