When people want to play in a sanctioned sports tournament they will often have to join the sports association that is putting on the tournament. Sports associations are organizations that sanction and govern sports tournaments and sports competitions. Many sports associations are state organizations that are the governing body for a sport within that state. Many state sports associations are divisions of larger national sports associations or international sports associations. Some kinds of sports associations include golf associations, tennis associations, bowling associations, billiards associations, and dart associations. Some sports and entertainment associations are made up of people who own or operate sports or entertainment facilities. Some entertainment associations are casino owners associations or bowling alley owner associations. Some sports associations are professional sports associations in which all members are professionals but most sports associations are amateur sports associations.
