Greek food, for the uninitiated, may seem intimidating with the strange sounding names of the dishes. But, once you dig in to Greek food, you may find yourself breaking out in a Greek folk dance on the table as the food delights your taste buds. Greek food is steeped in tradition. Food, for the ancient Greeks, had religious and philosophical meaning. For example, the ancient Greeks never ate meat unless it had been sacrificed to a god, or had been hunted in the wild. Certain vegetables were considered favored by particular gods. This traditional reverence for food may be the reason Greek food is so tasty today.
